As the monsoons take over India and make stepping out a real task, rather than sitting at home and brooding take a break and head on over to London. Seriously! If escaping the country is what you’d like to do, then there’s no place you’d rather be than London, and no time you'd rather go than now! While it’s pouring, flooded and humid here, it’s the best time of the year aka summertime in London. The sun sets at 9:00 PM, and if you didn't already know this, summer in London is the best weather you'll ever experience London in, plus if you catch an occasional rain shower it is in fact an enjoyable experience. London is absolutely glorious in summer time!
There’s just so much more stuff to do and with the sun shining brightly, you can spend the entire day exploring the rich history of the city, visit museums, admire the royal architecture, enjoy the vibrant and bustling market areas, go on boat rides across the rivers or go enjoy an exhibition, or just sit down for a picnic in a tranquil park with enchanting views of ducks and swans swimming in ponds and wander through gardens filled with blooming rose bushes. And if you’re a sports enthusiast then you have the World’s biggest events happening here at the same time, from The Cricket World Cup to The Tennis Championships and The Royal Ascot. You could spend months here and not run out of things to do! But unless you can quit your jobs and head on to live that English life for months, I'm only proposing a short trip here.
Now on this trip I stayed in London for three weeks, three glorious weeks and during my time there I got to experience a mini staycation at a rather interesting Hotel- K West Hotel & Spa, London’s coolest celebrity hangout. A modern Hotel housed within a former BBC office building (and recording studio) dating from the 1960s, holding onto the elements of its deep history and yet featuring a vibrant contemporary themed design. Not only does this hotel have a story, it has luxury, it has an amazing glam rock high tea and an incredible spa. The hotel pulsates a young, fresh vibe the minute you step foot in the lobby. Located in the Shepherd’s Bush area of London, this hotel is a two minute walk from Westfield London. I stayed in the A-lister worthy K Signature Suites, immaculately finished with a plush couch and a feature hand-made, extremely comfortable mattress and their signature super king-sized bed. There was also a handy work space, and a modern bathroom complete with a bath tub.
The uniquely innovative Retro Afternoon Tea is the ultimate throwback with a playful menu guaranteed to bring out the inner-child in you. Not only would you enjoy a Retro themed spread on your table with sweet delights and savouries paired with a bottle of sparkling wine or scones and floral afternoon tea, but you would also get your own takeaway Pick ‘n Mix bag full of classic sweets including assorted rainbows and coloured candy canes. In the lobby right by the reception is The K Lounge bar, a colorful cocktail bar, which like the hotel’s decor is inspired by its rich music heritage. You can get some Rock ‘N’ Roll style cocktails here on candlelit tables, cushioned sofas and enjoy them swaying to music played by some top DJ's every weekend. This famous BBC Building Kensington House back in the 60's has hosted an endless list of Rock ‘N’ Roll royalty like Bob Marley and the Wailers, Bowie, The Kinks and Roxy Music. So obviously the modern K West Hotel with all its glamorous history attracts a really niche crowd even now. I missed exploring the much talked about spa at this hotel, but I'm definitely looking forward to going back to experience that during my next trip to London.
